What is a Periodontist?

A Periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the supporting structures of the teeth and/or dental implant; primarily the jaw bone, gums and outer root and/or implant surface. A Periodontist has had at least 2-4 years of additional schooling after dental school. The role of a Periodontist is to:

(1) Identify the cause of your condition.

(2) Eliminate/alter the cause of the problem.

(3) Create an environment to prevent or reduce the re-occurance of the condition.

(4) Correct, if possible, the damage that has been done by the condition.
